It's a continuous loop:

Minibike/motorcycle/stolen car driver's reckless activity draws police attention
Police attempt to make a stop
Driver increases speed and recklessness to evade police
Driver creams into a telephone pole/house/other innocent driver and predictable tragedy ensues
Driver's relatives blame police for causing tragedy
Teddy bears and other stuffed animals begin to congregate at site of tragedy
Relatives hire prominent attorney
Attorney rides around on his big-legged donkey shouting that the police caused the tragedy
City quietly settles with family
Repeat

Sucks

I know a guy whose son has a mini bike. He's gone to the police department to ask what the laws are regarding such conveyances. Seems there aren't any really, at least as far as my acquaintance or the law enforcement officials he consulted with could discern. He only lets his son, who is 15 or 16, ride it when dad is around.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Chesney plays Ford Field every year. You don't want to work that night, but I always do. Like it used to be you didn't want to work Hoedown Weekend before they limited beer sales and eventually moved it away from Hart Plaza.

Chesney night really is the worst. Two years ago we got two chicks, both Staties and both named Amber, or some other generic hooker name, hanging out in their Vince Neil cowboy hats and pissing themselves. Amateurs...our regulars show up with a 0.36 BAC and you wouldn't know they've been drinking.

Movement is good for people tripping on God knows what. I went to the Coney after work on Movement weekend this year. The place was full of a particularly dodgy crowd.

This had to be almost 15 years ago but on my job orientation everybody had to go to corporate headquarters and do a bunch of shit and one thing we had to do was to watch a video narrated by Carmen. Her talking head was projected on a wall. I'm talking fifteen foot ceilings. She had a real turkey neck, as anybody would. Don't ever let anybody do that to you. Then everybody had to stand up and talk about how they were "diverse". The only thing I could think of was that I was diverse in my lack of diversity. Fuck me.

I was at the Field Street H?J's sitting at the bar in my normal spot at the end of the bar closest to the pool tables (probably with Beav, Ya Mar, and SA along with a couple others). Carmen Harlen is in there with a couple other people. I guess she liked going in there because she was left alone (which was the beauty of the old place that was never recreated in the new place......you could have Carmen Harlan on one side and Sir, Sir on the other and nobody gave a fuck). She was way at the other end of the bar, so I didn't even know she was there. So when she gets ready to leave, Thompson looks at me and says, "Carmen Harlan's getting ready to leave. Walk her out to her car, for me". I'm drunk as a fucking hoot owl (sorry SA, I stole that one) and slur something like, "OK, boss!!!". And when she leaves I dutifully get out of my bar stool and walk (stumble?) with her out the door. Apparently, she was unawares of the escort because she turned and looked at me with a puzzled look on her face. I just said to her, "Ms. Harlen, I don't know how much good I'll be at this, but Thompson ordered me to make sure you get to your car safely, and that's what I'm going to do come hell or high water." She looked at me and just laughed (with, not at), took my arm, and showed me where her car was. I opened the door for her, she thanked me and was off.......it was a pretty cool interaction
Where the hell am I going? And what the hell am I doing in this handbasket?

I followed the link and read the text. Very funny that homeboy is playing this off like his four-year (second target in the hit, btw) wrote this elaborate text. Having said this i believe that everyone has sent and received some bizzare stuff as a result of combining pocket-dial texting and voice-to-text. Two pickets to Titsburgh meets the digital age.

Coleman Young II to announce run for Detroit mayor

http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-n ... 0383-story

I think everyone knew this would someday be the case. I knew fifteen years ago, when he changed his adult name from "Joel Loving" to CAY Jr.

Fox2 Let It Rip last night made clear what his campaign platform will be: Outsiders are taking over like an invading ants. My father won the city for us in 1974, now it's time to take it back again. I suspect such sentiment will play very well in the neighborhoods.

Yesterday, I walked from Campus Martius to Grand Circus Park, then over to Capitol Park. It's been a few months since I'd been on foot in that stretch. Just about every building in the five blocks was in some point of rehab. Long empty storefronts and hair braid stores were transforming to Nike, Under Armour, and other legit retailers and classy places like the Shinola Hotel and the Cornerstone bar. Two years ago, Capitol Park was like skid row... even walking through it during the day was scary. Now the derelicts are gone and the buildings are no longer empty crumbling shells but examples of renewal.

I fear that under CAY Jr, we'll have a repeat of CAY Sr's angry approach and activist policies. which will result in a rapid divestment of capital, just like what happened in the 1970s and 1980s. It wasn't that long ago that tumbleweeds were blowing down Michigan Ave and Woodward. Those days may be back sooner than anyone thinks.

Capital Park... yes, once a very frightening place. When I was very young my father brought me along on a trip to a sporting goods store located there to pick up a new speed bag. Anyway, my next pass through the park 30+ years later found it to have fallen from vibrant commercial area into the plainly scary-assed place that slithered along until just a few years ago. I remember vividly a moment of panic when I was working downtown and out for a break when I saw what seemed to be a skinny 20-something Euro-backpacker type look over a tourist map and then march straight into the area, probably to catch a bus. I remember thinking "Christ, someone should stop him because he's about to get rolled and thumped." But the guy was across the street and walking fast so, meh, I moved on.

A revival of ugly black nationalist voting sensibilities seems very plausible just now. Hysteria over Donald Trump is bringing out all sorts of weirdness, but more to the point CBD and Mid-Town have boomed and bloomed but the 'hoods remain war zones. It is easy to imagine conspiracy theories spooling up among the folk who watch their environment slip further into the third world and grow increasingly disaffected while the billionaires cash in and white people of (relative) means enjoy their (again, relatively) posh playground.
