Men work really hard at getting laid and access to pornography. But today the guy in the linked article wins the internet.

Guys named Charles Rogers seem to have trouble staying on the straight and narrow. At least he shows some northern Michigan pride by fashioning his facial hair into a replica of the Mackinaw Bridge.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

I read somewhere that it's been called that since 2001; same guy?
No, a contractor:
Work began on the west end of the Ford and moved east, focusing first on the DIE/Ford/Michigan Avenue (US-12) interchange. The state highway department, which was responsible for preparing the plans, received assistance in the design of the US-12 Bridge from Hazelet and Erdal, consulting engineers from Chicago. When the highway department opened bids for the project's general contractor on 15 July 1948, Peter Darin and John Armstrong, principals of the Detroit construction firm Darin and Armstrong, won the award with the low bid of approximately $925,000. Construction began 4 August. Some 95,000 cubic yards of clay had to be excavated from the site. Progress was delayed in October by a ruptured high-pressure water main, and the structures were not finished until the following August. Other contractors involved in the project included Charles J. Rogers of Detroit (excavation) and the Great Lakes Steel Company.

Unless I'm mixing up people and companies the CJ Rogers in question was a construction guy then a company that bore heis name. In one of my college jobs I worked with a young scion of the family -very nice guy- and over time got an earful about the dirty side of Detroit-area concrete and road building businesses. It's been a very long time, but I distinctly remember a story about how the company was wrestled away in an unscrupulous way by dirty elements, like mob, and so the owner and family fell far although the company and name lived on and prospered. People talk about how banking and capital markets are a rigged game. I feel the same way about the construction industry and am as certain as I am about anything that road budgets always include a hefty, hidden strata in the budget for corrupt insiders and contractors.
Soon I discovered that this rock-thing was true...

It's a lot more funny if you think it was the loser from Saginaw who couldn't play football.

The Freep is running a series on cops who do crimes and get fired and go down the street and get a new cop job without any difficulty (especially Highland Park, apparently HP will hire anybody regardless of background).

They have a page that profiles some examples, and then I read this one:

LaNesha Jones

Detroit Police Department
Status: Separated from Highland Park Police; license is lapsed

Where she's worked*:

5/27/97 - 1/5/09: Detroit Police
9/16/08 - 3/14/12: Highland Park Police

What the Free Press found:

According to a civil lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court, Jones in 2007 smashed a glass into a woman’s face and put her in a choke hold at Floods Bar and Grille in downtown Detroit. Jones was charged with felonious assault and aggravated assault. She pleaded to the misdemeanor assault.

According to documents obtained by the Free Press, Detroit police fired her and an arbitrator upheld the dismissal. By the time the arbitrator’s decision came down Highland Park had hired her as a detective. Later she was promoted to deputy chief.

Lorenzo Veal II, then-chief of police, said the department was aware of Jones’ criminal record when she was hired. Veal told the Free Press in 2010 that he believed Jones received probation. Regardless, he said, the Detroit department’s “loss was our gain.”

In 2015, a lawsuit accused Jones in a botched 2006 homicide investigation in Detroit that led to the conviction and prison sentence of a man named Elroy Jones. Elroy Jones served seven years before he was awarded a new trial. Prosecutors dropped the case. LaNesha Jones, who was a supervisor then in Detroit homicide, is accused with other officers of mishandling the investigation and withholding information from prosecutors that could have cleared Elroy Jones. The lawsuit was settled but no details were available in court records.

LaNesha Jones could not be reached for comment.

They write about Elroy Jones. His full name is Elroy Lucky Jones. I was on his jury. We found him guilty pretty quickly, the evidence and testimony was overwhelming, but even so it's kind of a heavy thing to be responsible for putting somebody away forever, even if it was deserved. I felt better about it when the prosecutor told me it was a retrial necessitated by the transcripts being stolen from the court recorder's car at the Jefferson/Lenox CVS. Then I found out that Elroy was framed up. Now I know who did the framing.

I figure that this experience, which only verified my preexisting assumption that all law enforcement is corrupt from top to bottom, will get me off any future juries.
