While I do not always agree with him, his "People's History" was an amazing piece of work.

Agree on both counts.

As for J.D. Sallinger, I still have no idea why "The Catcher in the Rye" is such a big deal. All the little fucker did was bitch the whole book.

I've read The Catcher in the Rye three times. In high school, in college for a class, and two years ago, I didn't find it compelling the first time around and it's less and less impressive with each succeeding read. So many other authors have written so many better books around the same themes, it's a wonder Sallinger holds up so well.

If that's all it takes, I should tape an 9 hour shift of me behind the bar and have someone transcribe it. It'd sell millions.

Does that mean you're abandoning Honest John's: The Musical?
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

Zelda Rubinstein, a 4-foot-3-inch character actress best known for playing the indomitable ghost-purging psychic in “Poltergeist,” died on Wednesday in Los Angeles. She was 76 and lived in Los Angeles

NYT article

I'll bet she just knew it was going to happen, too

She was also the organist in "Sixteen Candles".

That, embarrassing enough, took me a while.

My book, on the other hand, will be called "Beav, on a bed of rice."

I had to right click. I couldn't help but thinking Gary Carter was dead.

The world would lose much of its sweetness without that glorious permed mullet. It would be ironic if Gary Carter died young considering he and Mookie Wilson were the only two members of the '86 Mets who weren't coked-out sex predators.

Ray Knight also was a somewhat decent human being ... the rest of those guttersnipes were abhorrent. I still hate the Mets because of those fuckers.
