I can't believe this fall marks 14 years as an educator -- I'm still a fairly new assistant professor, but when it comes to being in the classroom, I'm definitely midcareer (and I feel it). Bring it on!
Time flies so fast. I can't believe that I was in the K-12 classroom for 7 years... and that I'm now going into my 7th year as a full-time college instructor (4 years as a grad student instructor of record; going into my 3rd year as a college professor).
And I've taught summer school 7 times (one year K-8, five years' worth of 9-12, and once at the university level)... so if you go by semesters...
...this is pretty much all I've been doing so far with my adult life. #amazed #reflective #lookingahead
...This one isn't stupid, but I have two FB Friends who regularly post updates that are of the Bragging About Oneself variety, and maybe it's because my current goals are of the decidedly-non-lofty variety-- ie., can I just sit on the porch with my feet up and my pipe burning some good Virginia tobacco-- but I really don't want to see How Great Thou Art.

So you retired? Awesome. Really. I'm jealous.
The update from Gully's friend pretty much underscores why I'm not on FB. Who really wants to know all of "that" about someone else? I mean, damnit, I'm in love with my wife and we have kids together and everything, but even with someone with whom I'm that tight I wouldn't want to read a semester-by-semester account of anything. How conceited are people to assume that anyone or everyone has even the slightest interest in the machinations of their daily thoughts or in every twitch of their career? Seems to me that the "friend's" kind of writing has always been produced, it's just that in the past it appeared in handwritten journals that were created and kept for an audience limited to oneself.

Frank, this is exactly why I eschew Twitter; who in the hell wants to know what I, or anyone else for that matter, had for breakfast, am wearing today or where I am RIGHT NOW?

Yeah, I agree. It's all about who you follow. I'm not so much into the news as I am into entertaining people. I don't want to see links to some comedian's show schedule but I like to read witty comments. Steve Martin is a good example.

OK, well then, have a look into { Brian B. @BrianBeckner }
Beckner is a witty, goofy guy. Like any dedicated jokester, some of his quips are more Miss than Hit, but I enjoy his sense of humor.

I haven't gotten into Twitter too much, but I do like @PhilCokesBrain when I do look at it.

its bruised so dark too

Me: I'm totally freaked out that I'm dizzy from diving into the water wrong yesterday.
[Him]: It's probably just because you still have water in your ear.
Me: Ohhhh, yeah.
