I never got fat cops. Isn't there a physical fitness component? Shouldn't he be able to chase after a criminal? Lift a certain amount of pounds? Not be a hazard at the scenen of an accident but actually be of use?

How the hell does he keep his patrol job?

Get that big and if they can't fire you or put you on a desk there ought to be a mandatory policy that you're restricted to walking (jogging?) a beat until you drop back down to the more sane BMI. Assuming he's a mere 300 lbs, a nice 10-mile patrol beat walked at 2.5 mph burns 1600 calories. If he does his part, instead of walking it with a Double Whopper in his face, he might get fit.

Many years ago I was driving down Hill St. in AA past the sororities. I saw a mildy overweight girl jogging away from me with her sweatshirt hood pulled up. As I passed I looked at her and she was EATING A TWINKIE! Honey, you're doing it wrong.

My brother was a cop in Houston and he explained it to me this way: when you are behind the wheel of a cruiser it can be dangerous, lots of playerz packin heat.
Burger joints, Doughnut shops and pizza joints like the cops to drop by all the time, at different times and they are only too eager to give them the fattening chow for the protection they receive. The logic was, the sooner you got fat, the sonner they took you out of the cruiser and put you behind a desk in the station, where your chances of getting shot were far lower. I don't know if it works that way today, but in the 80s it worked that way.

Kevin Smith oversized? ejected from flight

AP – FILE - In this Oct. 20, 2008 file photo Kevin Smith arrives at the premiere of 'Zach and Miri Make A … 1 hr 12 mins ago

LOS ANGELES – Kevin Smith says he's "way fat," but that shouldn't stop him from flying.

The director and actor says a pilot ejected him from a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank, Calif., saying he didn't fit properly in a single seat.

Smith raised a stink about the incident on his Twitter page Sunday, saying "I'm way fat, but I'm not there just yet," and "If you look like me, you may be ejected from Southwest Air."

He posted a picture of himself sitting on the plane with his cheeks puffed out.

Southwest says it "Customer of Size" policy require travelers must be able to fit safely and comfortably in one seat or make other arrangements.

After a storm of angry online comments from Smith and his fans, the airline issued an apology first from its own Twitter account and later in a statement on its Web site titled "Not So Silent Bob," a jovial jab at the Silent Bob character Smith plays in many of his films.

"We would like to echo our tweets and again offer our heartfelt apologies to you," the statement said.

The airline said it also accommodated Smith on a later flight, gave him a $100 voucher and apologized by phone.

Both Smith and the airline acknowledged that he had bought two seats for his original flight from Oakland, where he had spoken at the Macworld Expo conference.

But he was flying standby in order to catch an earlier flight, and only one was available.

Smith insisted that he was still able to put both armrests down and buckle his seat belt, which is Southwest's standard.

I have no idea who this guy is.

Smith is the director of the new Bruce Willis movie "Cop Out," and previously directed the films "Clerks" and "Chasing Amy."

Oh, sorry, maybe I should've finished reading it but what the fuck does this mean?

"We would like to echo our tweets and again offer our heartfelt apologies to you," the statement said.

This guy...
Image
...made the news up north of I-69 for a double homicide.

Details of the case are not important here. What is relevant to the thread is this bit of testimony from one of the officers involved:
Sgt. Rusty Lamay testified that on the trip from Owosso Police Department to the Shiawassee County Jail that afternoon, Drake discussed a trip to Hawaii he had been saving for, and "now he wasn't going to be able to go to Hawaii."

Somewhere out there is a person, maybe two, who won the escape-the-flight-from-hell lottery and have no idea of lucky they are. "Excuse me, Miss Stewardess? May I have another Pepsi and another handful of those little bags of peanuts?" He'd have to be good for a case and crate of each just going one way.

Addendum:
Officer Douglas Stanhope of the Owosso Police Department

Shiawassee County has a celebrity.

Sgt. Rusty Lamay

Didn't he retire when Judge Wopner left the bench?

I've seen commercials for the upcoming "Biggest Loser" and one of the participants is former Olympic champion Rulon Gardner.

Then (285 pounds):

Now (474 pounds):

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

I read that the last straw was when she googled herself and found a comment saying she used to be hot but now she looks like Elton John. I guess that would do it for anyone.

They used a taser? Where was she going to go? I'm betting that they didn't have to use the taser, they just did it because they wanted to. Can't say I blame them, who wouldn't want to tase a 400lb. woman?

Most of the comments following the story question what kind of pussy needs to tase a 400lb woman. I guess they don't think that a fist with 400 pounds behind it can pack a whallop. When the talking is done, a few thousand volts can be an effective persuader.

A fist with that much behind it can do some damage for sure. It would take a few days to get to it's mark and she might go into cardiac arrest mid-jab, but yeah. I think it would be quite the show to zap someone that size. Her rolls are probably still having aftershocks.

If a 400-lb motherfucker who uses a motorized cart to get around can successfully land a punch anywhere on my dreadfully scrawny but still shockingly agile body, I will cheerfully accept the mass-driven wallop and, as a token of my surprised respect, award the person by giving them all of the money I have with me.

I mean, c'mon, Guest, get real.

I didn't get excited about her back in the Star Wars days, one of those unfortunate cases where the daughter gets Daddy's looks and not momma's.

Woman cleared in husband's death loses custody of sons
Mike Martindale / The Detroit News

Pontiac— An Oakland Circuit judge ruled today that parental rights of a Farmington Hills woman previously cleared in the death of her husband should be terminated based on child protection reports that she was woefully neglectful and apparently mentally unable to care for her two sons.

Hallmark noted the two boys lacked nutritional food and survived primarily on pizza, carryout food and "whatever they could find in the house."

The 11-year-old boy weighs 250 pounds and his brother is also obese, Hallmark noted, which she said was due to them being "lonely, afraid and confused."
