We've had a couple who refer to their young charges as "friends" when asking them to line up, quiet down or stop doing stuff. My mom used Polish words to address the classroom of "rotten kids." Gapa and fuyata are seared into their brains, and most of her former students who are friends with her on Facebook remember them as terms of endearment.
