Suspended Detroit cop had killing victim's watch

A Detroit police homicide sergeant has been suspended after department officials found him wearing a murder victim's expensive watch.

Sgt. Alex Vinson was the officer in charge of a case several months ago involving an unknown murder victim who was found wearing an expensive, German-made watch, Detroit Police Chief James Craig confirmed.

The watch was photographed and put into storage in the Homicide Section's property room. The victim has not been identified, and the homicide case has gone cold.

This week, while Vinson was in Idaho for advanced police training, fellow homicide detectives decided to reopen the case.

The detectives wanted to take another look at the watch — but when they removed the victim's belongings from the property room, the watch wasn't the same one that was photographed at the start of the case. Instead, it was a cheaper model, Craig confirmed.

The detectives quickly informed police officials about the discrepancy, Craig said.

"We were made aware of this a few nights ago and immediately initiated an internal investigation," Craig said. "We directed (Vinson) to return home."

Craig added the FBI helped police recover the watch, which Vinson was wearing during the training session. Vinson returned to Michigan Wednesday, and was read his Miranda rights by Internal Affairs officers.

"The case in ongoing, and the sergeant has been suspended while we prepare a warrant for review by prosecutors," Craig said.

Attempts to reach Vinson for comment Thursday were unsuccessful, and a call to his union, the Lieutenants and Sergeants Association, was not returned.

I'm surprised the watch was still there when the sergeant arrived at the crime scene. Watches, wedding rings, etc., usually are easy pickings for EMTs.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

Actually, first pickens generally go to "friends", or the first people who stumble across the corpse.

I think they call them Good Samaritans, like the helpful folks who arrived on the scene of a car crash and helped the victims into a cab and sent them to the hospital, but not before palming the keys so they could go to their house and remove all the furniture.

Contrary to what y'alls believe, we don't steal your shit, although it's always fun when people show up demanding the fat wad of cash we counted and locked in the safe. It's amazing how much cash people carry around, and equally amazing how little we find on many others, but we don't turn the "rent money" over to the first person who shows up.

Or that charming duo who picked up their "cousin's" motorcycle off of I-94 and took it home while he lay dying in the road.

And that's why when you get admitted, your belongings sheet doesn't read "Gold ring/watch" or "Silver ring/watch" it reads "Yellow metal/While metal" (fill in the blank). Most of the patients are the ones trying to get something for nothing...or their families. When someone would squawk. I would tell them "Sorry ma'am, I'm a Paramedic, not a Jeweler"...
Just another run of the mill suburban white devil, with an "Assault" weapon. Molon Labe.

What a bunch of horseshit. I've called 911 as I've seen parking scams happening at the Statler lot. The operator told me she couldn't send anyone. I root for the parking scammers now. It's not like the police have stepped up patrols in the past, or will now (I suspect it's gonna be a bum bonanza the next couple days with the Tigers in town...good for them).

Maybe I'm just a bitter Detroit resident now, but how can you not blame the victims? A bunch of silly suburbanites dressed in pink blindly give their parking money to the smiling guy with the bright flag and tell him to keep an eye on the iPad they left on the front seat of their Town and Country. Fuck off. Run for cancer somewhere else you idiots and take Deena Centofani and the Fox 2 news van with you.

What continues to surprise me is the extent to which suburbanites are impervious to the drum beat of evidence: Detroit is not Novi; Detroit is dangerous. Experience & observation have led me to this simple rule: what you want and normally expect is the opposite of what you'll get in the city. It's a fucked up town, more so than any other place that I've experienced in the US, and yet so many just don't seem to be reading their memos. There are no parking scams at the Birch Run Expo Center or Twelve Oaks Mall or Greenfield Village, and so folk blithely hand over their fives and tens and why not just call it what it is: a tax on ignorance and a persistent belief that people everywhere are basically good.

As a suburbanite, I must disagree. I have heard of breaking in Detroit as well as southfield as well as west blooomfield.

If I have them in my car, I don't leave valuable things in plain sight in my car ANYWHERE. Anything of value is put in my trunk BEFORE I GET TO MY LOCATION.

I am in Detroit more often than most suburbanites, and i have NEVER had one of these problems....Maybe I am naive or lucky....so yes...I am impervious to the drumbeat of evidence.

Sections of Sterling Heights have been seeing increased thefts from cars left unlocked in the owner's driveway. I almost posted the video report from Channel 7 on the "Oh fuck you" thread a month ago, because they interviewed some 40-year-old blond bimbo victim who said she shouldn't have to worry about leaving her purse, jewelry, and computer on the seat in her unlocked car.

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/l ... /16077887/

“In each of these cases people left valuables in the car like purses, computers, things you should never do.”

Now they're also using the unlocked cars to gain access to garages.

I was tempted to post this in Dead Celebrities.

"Former DMC chief dies in Panama amid kickback probe"

A former head of the Detroit Medical Center who was later charged in one of the largest fraud and corruption investigations in Canadian history has died in custody in Panama.

Dr. Arthur Porter, 59, CEO of DMC from 1999 through 2003, died Wednesday of cancer while under armed guard in a Panama City hospital. The death was announced by Porter's biographer, Jeff Todd, who said the cause was lung cancer that had spread to the bone and liver.

Put an ad-blocker on my Chrome to get rid of those stupid little underlined words on every fucking website that pop up and ad when you mouse over.
Now when I go to the Big Kid's Table, I get a pop up begging for money because I'm blocking his ad revenue.
Cheap ass SOB

Same ad blocker here, same result, but I guess I look at clicking on the pop-up as just a little unpaid work which I'm happy to do.
