Hot Fudge Contradictions

I don't think this thread has been resurrected yet, so here's good ol' LMich to get us started:

There are obstructionist in every process. Some groups just happen to be particularly vocal. They are reactionaries by their very nature, and akin to the 'concern citizens' or 'church lady' groups that have too much time on their hands. Though, I'd much rather they be protesting and passionate about school closures than opposing a Hooters liquor license transfer if you know what I'm talking about. Actually, I'm not really mad at that group, either. I love democracy in action, regardless of how I feel about a particular cause. I'm not a fan of CEO, but I don't find them particularly any different than most modern community activist groups.
Clearly if I had the needs and funding I would surely invest here and become the change Detroit needs.

Maybe there should be a "I Don't Know a Fucking Thing and I Keep Proving it Over and Over and Over Again" thread.

Or, "IDKFTIKPOOOA" for short.

Good idea - a thread exclusively dedicated to LMichigan.

Their pizza is terrible, but if they really open 30 locations, it's great news.

I have suggestions and ideas for the whole school closure issue. If DPS were smart about things (and they aren't) then they would phase out schools so that no one is upset. That would entail not allowing grades coming into the school to start in the fall. For example, in a high school that is slated for closure, no more incoming 9th graders and no new students (from other schools or out of district). Let the kids "graduate" from their school and when the last class has "graduated" then close the school. This will lessen people's heartache that their kids will not finish where they started (which is the problem with the high schools that are slated for closure).

DPS needs to close schools in order to run more efficiently. They also must sell the closed schools in order for them to not still be a life sucking force. If they don't sell the building, then they must still keep the heat on (so the pipes don't burst), keep the grass cut, keep vandals out (which would entail boarding windows and reboarding when folks do get in), and paying an engineer to make sure the boiler is working.

This has been a problem for DPS in the past, they haven't unloaded the buildings they aren't using. I also suggest that they take a building slated for closure and make it into the central office. We are paying rent on buildings for offices when we own some that are not being utilized.

Just a lowly teacher's opinion but I really think that if they do these simple things that I have suggested, they could save a lot more than anticipated and make less people angry.

Let's take a building designed for 1500 students and use it for 500 (in a district with overcrowded classrooms, no less). That would be less expensive and more efficient.

The NYTimes is a very interesting newspaper. With as much credibility in their news stories as either Detroit "newspapers". For me, they lost it with the gushing, ultimately false embedded stories of Judith Miller.

Great cultural coverage and columnists though (except for David Brooks of course, who seems to have a big old man crush on Bush).

Another bad day...I stopped my car on I-75 N. to adjust some things in the back seat and a truck zoomed by while the door was ajar and sprung my drivers' door....ripping the top hinge away from the metal wall. I called my insurance co. and instead of them putting the claim on my broadform, they put it on my comprehensive. Now I have a $250.00 deductible. Like, I can afford it....so....I bought a bunch of instant lotteries hoping that God would give me a break, and I lost.

You poor thing.

But EXMO, he didn't just call the rough, and you blamed someone other than him for what HE said.

You guys still refuse to listen to what I've been saying.

I don't, Nor do many blacks condone this kind of behavior.
But you fixate on one thing that fits your argument and totally disregard any and all rebuttal arguments.

If you would stop trying to force your opinion and listen, you will find that we agree more often than not. Even on such a sensitive subject as this.

FYI: I Hate Rap Music

She's arguing that not all black people condone the use of derogatory words for black women and implies there's a stereotype there that's undeserving.

But doesn't she stereotype rap music with a blanket statement about hating it?

If someone is hating on something like this...

...it sounds like they have some stereotype issues of their own.

MSNBC will be even more boring w/o Imus, not that I ever watch it anyway. Its schedule is full of repeating the same few shows over and over. Hardly an outlet to watch for any appreciable time. Its market share was pitifully low, even with Imus.

Wonder if it makes any money. Anybody know for sure what it earns?

If you don't watch it, how do you know it's boring?

Thank you for this gem, Scottr:

With about 100,000 more students in DPS, $280,000 is a relative bargain, especially given the issues facing the district.

however, i will agree with vas, lead by example and take a pay cut.

I suspect my Dr is just trying to make a little money, he has me coming back every 3 mos for borderline high BP. True I could stand to lose a 100 lbs too. Last time I was there the nurse checked it when I arrived. 130 over 80. Not too bad. Last year it was getting high, 136 / 96. I no longer add salt to food. I do exercise a few times a week, but don't really watch my diet that well. What really pissed me off last time I was there, like I said the nurse checked it when I arrived it was fine. The Dr kept me waiting an hour an fifteen minutes, which irked me. He finally shows up and checks the BP, its 136/90 now. I'm sure it was up a little because I was upset about waiting so long. I told him I don't wanna wait that long next time. He said to schedule an earlier appointment for the next 3 monther. I've taken those BP pills before when a crash diet nearly wiped out my kidneys. I don't want to take them again. They cause performance issues.

Someone who's 100 lbs overweight is still worried about not being able to get it up?
