Dinner at Selden Standard and then a show at the DSO.

Cover tonight's Wings game, pack, then get on the road to Chicago tomorrow morning for Christmas with Brunette 1.0.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

If you're around for a couple of days I'll be in Chicago as well. Buy you a drink while we're both there.

Me too. Or I was. Took a ride up to visit Woodcraft and talk chisels. Living up north is turning me into a country mouse because that damn Tittibawasse Road by the mall seemed to me to be almost too busy.

Reporting back: didn't buy the parting gouge but we did swing wide in order to hit the small-town charms of downtown Owosso. Had a meal where the waiter is usually a not-so-distant cousin of Jim Ignatowski. You almost expect him to add "'n shit" when he speaks, e.g. "the Shiraz is good 'n shit," or "I'll bring your bill 'n shit." Kinda comical when the experience is compared to that of the typical high-end encounter with an expense-account lunch at Chuck Muer's or Chez Expensive' but, reall, this is a place for a satisfying meal with a friendly staff so we keep going back.

I spent the night in the land of Middle Aged Female and then heading downtown for a birthday party at club in MGM. I'm staying at the Book Cadillac, so I'm eager to see what that's all about. I've got some time to kill before check in so I'm trying to decide what to do. Mexicantown? Eastern Market? Tranny hookers?
By using the El Dorado Atmospheric and Oceanic temperatures thermal map. I caculated the contrary direction where the polar jet stream is going and it didn't look pretty.

You could take a Tranny Hooker to Roast in the Book and make his/her day.

If you're going for a walkabout, there's a dank little place a block down Michigan ave next to Lafayette Coney called Bathtub Pub. Look for the brown building with mostly broken windows on the second and third floor. Sometimes someone shows up to run the place, sometimes not. Last time I ate one of their "signature" burgers, it was frozen solid in the middle. In this era of weekly new boutique eateries in Corktown, Midtown, and the CBD, its nice to know there's a shitty meal in Detroit if you want one.

If I were going to SW, I'd go with El Barzon. It's off the main drag and built like an armored fortress, which is a comforting thought given every weekend one heavily-armed SW gang is beefing with another heavily-armed SW gang.

If I were going to Eastern Market, I'd be sure to venture down St. Aubin street to watch pheasants and pitbulls as they galavant about the open savannah. My favorite house (also one of the only) is the windowless cinder block shell built by Cranbrook students a few years ago as a school project to give to a poor family. Who wouldn't want a free house in America's most abandoned neighborhood? Six months after construction ended, the poor family was gone and the place was gutted and filled with syringes and piles of feces, a monument to do-gooders everywhere that sometimes even the best ideas will not have the results you hyped for.

Of course, there's should be an obligatory stop at the Heidelberg Project, or what remains of it. Be sure to buy a $10 brochure from Tyree so you can see the magic those piles of charred wood and melted baby dolls once brought the community.

As far as tranny hookers, the Metrotimes recently ran a puff piece about a she-male who works John R/McNichols. His/her specialty: evacuating into the mouths of paying customers. It was a journalistic low for a weekly paper that has seen its share of lows, but also a prospectus for new clients on the services offered by shim.

While those are all fine suggestions, I was thinking Mexicantown Bakery, Duly's or Mi Pueblo in the SW or Supino/Bloody Mary at Vivio's in EM. I've decided to try the pizza at the original Buddy's but after that I still have some time.

Mi Pueblo is a sound choice. Plus, you'd get to see my favorite Detroit mural on Vernor:

It's supposed to pay homage to working the land, I suppose, but to me, it looks more like the big goon hand has sprung and for a reason; Don't make me say it again beeyootch.

Mi Pueblo is the place we always go when we're in town. I like the chicherrones but I think I had enough fried pork skin when I was in Texas earlier this week.

Headed to another couple's place too, for NYE dinner. Kinda boring people, but always have top notch beer. Doubt we'll be there past 8 tho.

Then in bed by 1030. NYE is such a non-holiday, in my book. Even the television shows from Times Square are lame, now that Dick Clark has passed.
