American Indian Group Puts the Racism of Some Sports Logos Into Context

How long before someone tries to actually produce the left 2?

How long until some Brooklyn hipster walks around with the hat on the left?

Soccer Team Forgets Uniforms, Plays In Counterfeits Off The Street

Didn't Lou Whitaker do something like this once at an All-Star Game?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

"Because we have heart," Lewan said. "This team believes in themselves. It doesn't matter what any media, any fan or anybody thinks about this team. The only thing that matters is the guys in the locker room believe. If we have 115 guys believing, we can win.”

Ohio State boasts a stellar offense led by quarterback Braxton Miller. The Buckeyes lead the Big Ten in total offense (530.9 yards per game), scoring offense (48.7 points per game) and rushing offense (314.7 yards).

Lewan was asked about OSU's offense but turned the focus back to Michigan.

"We have a good defense," he said. "This is not about Ohio. I'm talking about the University of Michigan, 134 years of Michigan football, most wins in college football. I'm talking about that right now. Our defense will play. Our offense needs to be more consistent. We worked on that (Monday) morning, and we're going to work on that all week. The guys understand what kind of rivalry it is.

"I'm not talking about Ohio. I'm talking about the University of Michigan."

He had a heavy emphasis on "the," perhaps a reference to how Ohio State players refer to themselves as playing for "The Ohio State University."

You're lucky to have a 7-4 record, you'll be going to the BW3s Bowl if that luck holds out, and yet you still flaunt that good old maize and blue arrogance. Great program.

Taylor Lewan is an asshat. Now we know why Wlliam Gholston faceplanted him in the MSU-UM game two years ago. Because he's a dirty fucking player. They've tried to sell their fans that Denard Robinson was a Heisman candidate (Wrong!) and that Devin Gardner is the second coming of Tom Harmon (Wrong!). U-M has failed every time this year it has been tested this year except when they played ND. They got exposed by Penn State this year and haven't recovered since

And cut it out with the stupid Ohio crap. Believe it or not, the rest of the country thinks it's stupid, it makes you look like a bunch of fat assed Wal-Mart frequenting, Kool-Aid drinkers, and it's insulting to those went to Ohio.....not that that might matter, though. Ohio is just a MAC school that is only attended by the little people, so who cares, right?

Apologies to my friends that went to U-M (who, by the way, as a rule are the antithesis of the typical arrogant U-M fan whether they are on HFD or not), but this is why I can't fucking stand the U-M bandwagon/hype/manifest destiny

Not sure I should put this in the Lions thread, it's more about the NFL in general.

I'm not a big Rick Reilly fan, but I agree with the tone of this commentary.

Northwestern University football players are employees of the school and are therefore entitled to a union election, Peter Sung Ohr, the regional director of the National Labor Relations Board, said in a ruling released Wednesday afternoon.
Ohr's decision is expected to be appealed to the NLRB in Washington. Labor experts say an election is unlikely to take place until the NLRB makes a decision. If Ohr's decision is upheld, the case would likely make its way through federal appellate court and could reach the Supreme Court.
The decision is "revolutionary for college sports," said Robert McCormick, a professor emeritus at Michigan State University College of Law who focuses on sports and labor law.
McCormick said Ohr's decision could influence other state and federal agencies. For example, if college players demand compensation for injuries sustained during training or a game, Ohr's opinion could come into play in the question of whether the players are employees under the state Workers' Compensation Act.
Northwestern's football players are the first in college sports to seek union representation. Behind the effort is the College Athletes Players Association, or CAPA, a union funded by Ramogi Huma, a former UCLA linebacker who has become an advocate for players' rights. CAPA is backed by the United Steelworkers, which is covering the group's legal expenses.
The public face of CAPA has been former Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter, who appeared at NLRB hearings in February. Colter and CAPA said the players' services and responsibilities amounted to a full-time job, but even if that job were to be considered part time, they could still organize. Furthermore, the career of a college football player typically lasts four years, which is longer than the average NFL career, it argued.
At the hearings, Colter described a grueling football schedule that led him to drop his pre-med course load and switch to a less-demanding major.
Among its demands, CAPA is seeking financial coverage for former players with sports-related medical expenses, independent concussion experts to be placed on the sidelines during games and the creation of an educational trust fund to help former players graduate.
Alan Cubbage, Vice President for University Relations at Northwestern, said in a statement they were disappointed in the decision.
"While we respect the NLRB process and the regional director's opinion, we disagree with it," the university said. "Northwestern believes strongly that our student-athletes are not employees, but students. Unionization and collective bargaining are not the appropriate methods to address the concerns raised by student-athletes."
Northwestern confirmed that it plans to appeal to the full National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C. "We believe that participation in athletic events is part of the overall educational experience for those students, not a separate activity," NU said.

Northwestern's response is typical and priceless at the same time. "Student-athlete" was coined in the early 80s to get universities around paying workman's comp claims to injured athletes, some of whom lost their scholarships because they no longer were useful to their teams. It's amazing the NCAA and its member schools have clung to it that long.

Even better, this news comes a day after we learned that Ohio State AD Gene Smith got an extra week's pay bonus because an OSU wrestler won an individual national championship.

I had the same number of points and rebounds (but five fewer fouls) than Roy Hibbert last night.

The Pacers must all be banging each others' wives or something. They shouldn't have struggled with Atlanta they way they did and Washington is an even better matchup for them.
