It's been 10 years since they won the title ... seems like a lot longer than that.
Yeah, it does feel pretty long. I'd still consider him our Jerry West. 29 years with an organization is a rare thing and there are celebrated champions out there still trying to win a title as an executive (Bird, Phil Jackson) so he's proven his ability to build a championship team. Time to move on though. Even Jerry West left the Lakers.
Looking back, seems like the biggest fuck up of the coaching carousel was Davidson ordering Dumars to fire Larry Brown for being a drama queen. The franchise started coasting and hasn't stopped to this day.
I wonder if Dumars will end up in Cleveland. Makes sense to me.
He'll end up somewhere. He's still a young man and could work with the right owner.
The beginning of the end, I think, was when Davidson died. His widow didn't allow him to deal while she negotiated the sale of the team and, once Gores took over, the team was stuck in neutral.
To be sure, the Iverson-Billups trade was a disaster and they could've moved Hamilton and Prince sooner for some kind of value.
Brown, IIRC, had myriad health problems toward the end of his time in Detroit (the catheter bag under his sweatpants was hard to miss during practices) and I think Brown wanted out as much as the Pistons were tired of him. Davidson did order Dumars to can Carlisle because he was an asshole who treated little people in the organization like shit.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.
