The Beav, I don't know if there is anything that you can do about it, now, but I'm hearing that Harrison will not return until September.

I've been watching the reports. There's not much out there on the wire to replace him with at this time. I dread dropping him for Jacob Turner or Jeremy Bonderman.

Both those guys are HOT, HOT, HOT!!!
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Turner was already picked up this morning. Might I be missing out on the Bonderman gravy-train?

I'd have a tough time trusting Bonderman and would more likely to roll the dice on upside with one of those ballyhooed young arms if guys like Wheeler, Cole, Wacha, Gausman or Pineda are available.

The Beav, I recommend that you not give a single thought to Bonderman. Maybe see if Jeff Locke (PIT) is still available. Also, I'm curious about which OAK starters may be available to you.
Sorry about the Harrison news. That sucks.

Eight reasons my team is in last place:

* 1st round pick Matt Kemp is #79 on the ESPN Player Rater for outfielders (#170 overall hitter)

* 2nd round pick Giancarlo Stanton is #82 on the ESPN Player Rater for outfielders (#176 overall hitter)

* 3rd round pick Evan Longoria is #9 on the ESPN Player Rater for 3rd basemen (#45 overall hitter)

* 4th round pick Starlin Castro is #24 on the ESPN Player Rater for short stops (#158 overall hitter)

* 5th round pick Matt Holliday is #24 on the ESPN Player Rater for outfielders (#46 overall hitter)

* 8th round pick Pablo Sandoval is #21 on the ESPN Player Rater for 3rd basemen (#159 overall hitter)

* 11th round pick Paul Konerko is #47 on the ESPN Player Rater for 1st basemen (#217 overall hitter)

* 12th round pick Josh Willingham is #103 on the ESPN Player Rater for outfielders (#214 overall hitter)

And these are the guys I've kept!

Four months ago, I'd say you've got a very strong team there. Even today, it's hard to fathom that its not.

I had the top three finishers in the AL Cy Young voting (Scherzer, Darvish, Iwakuma). Bully for me.

Still went 6-14-2 though.

Thanks Matt Kemp!

Small sample size oddity:

12 team league -- currently I'm last in HRs (7) but first in RBIs (48).

I picked up Joba Chamberlain and stashed Joel Hanarahan on my DL.

Late last week, I was up in 4th place. Today I'm in 10th out of 13. I have reserved Nathan and am going to wait out the drought. Springer has turned out to be a decent gamble.

Looks like Gully picked Springer up for us, too. Castellanos seems to be catching fire, he might be a good pick until he cools off. Not for us, because we don't have the room, but I'd take a shot at him if we had a spot.

I drafted both of them at the start of the season.

In the interest of keeping our team in the race, Springer is close to getting the heave-ho.

I worry that, with Springer this season, I may have repeated a thing I did with Domonic Brown last season: picked him up at the ass-end of a power surge that he may not equal any time soon. Brown didn't completely flatten out, but he didn't subsequently live up to the image that I inferred from his surge in May of 2013. And Springer has an additional problem, in that it's easier to pitch around him, in the Astros' lineup, than with Brown in the Phillies' lineup (malfunctioning as it currently may be.)

I love the whole fantasy baseball thing. Partnering with Roque in this mutual undertaking has been great fun, for me. While I realize that leagues exist wherein some cash can be won, I think that I find a more satisfying result from being my friend's back-pocket consigliere.
