Grand Haven had a 6-5 Michigan volleyball recruit at center who blocked something like 8 shots.

One of South's best players had a triple-double (12 rebounds -- 10 were offensive -- 10 points and 10 steals), but also was 3-for-23 from the field.

Wacky, yet fun game to watch.

No. 2 Romulus knocked off No. 1 Pershing 93-91 in a Class A quarterfinal tonight at U of D. The score at the end of the first quarter matched the score at the end of the second game, a 54-49 Southeastern win over Rochester.

If Romulus doesn't win the state title, and their idiot coach has found all kinds of ways not to win it the last several years, it should be ashamed of itself.

Bracket time!

Regional champs: Louisville defeats Michigan State in the Midwest, Ohio State over Gonzaga in the West, Georgetown over Kansas in the South, Indiana over Illinois in the East.

Final Four: Louisville tops Ohio State and Indiana beats Georgetown. Louisville outruns Indiana and wins the national title 82-75.

Michigan beats South Dakota State in the first round but can't get past Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday. Sparty outslugs Duke in the regional semifinals before Louisville's guards eat Appling and Trice alive in the regional final (hoping I'm wrong here).
Early upset picks: Bucknell over Butler, Davidson over Marquette, St. Mary's over Memphis and Oregon over Oklahoma State.

My bracket hasn't entirely gone to shit, but one out of four upset picks ain't bad. Right? Right?

On happier note, New Mexico and wet-fart coach Steve Alford lost to Harvard last night, confirming the law that no team coached by Steve Alford ever won anything worth winning, ever. Asshole.

And if VCU can turn tomorrow's game into a track meet, Michigan is going to get hit with a brick.

As for today, let's try these on: Minnesota upsets UCLA and Cincinnati pulls a mild 10-7 upset of Creighton.

I picked the Harvard and Cal upsets. The Wisconsin loss hurts.

Well, not really. It doesn't hurt. I have no idea what I am doing. I mix ingredients like "I'd like a couple smart schools to win a couple games" with "I vaguely remember reading a headline in December that Wisconsin was a force to be reckoned with" and season them with a serious heap of indifference to the sport. What is a point guard? I have absolutely no idea. And I don't care to learn. I just love the fact that my 3 half assed brackets are now in sole possession of first and third place and part of a 9 way tie for fifth. HA!

The Florida Gulf coach is pretty much dominating life right now. His team beat Georgetown, he made a pile in real estate before getting back into coaching and his wife is a model.

Covering the boys' high school finals today. The Laingsburg-Flint Beecher Class C final has been awfully entertaining.

Can UFCG be considered a Cinderella? Underdog, yes. The way the seeds were ranked this year (obviously poorly) and the parity in Division One this year. It is cool to see a team in their second year of eligibility make the Sweet 16, tho. They are exciting, fun to watch, and a well coached team.

Indeed. This tournament, for the most part, has been great TV.

As usually happens, though, this weekend is when the big dogs eat.

Anyone going to Indy on Friday? Pick me up on the way.
Make no new female acquaintances; avoid soirees; call on old friends occasionally. Write good letters to absent friends, and attend church once each Sunday.

Michigan beats South Dakota State in the first round but can't get past Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday.

Ummm...it was a track meet alright. Just ended very similarly to when I ran against Alan Jefferson in the 100 back in 1986.
