Has any player in MLB history taken more shots to the head than Alex Avila?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Upon further review, Chamberlain did flick off the guys in the dugout heckling him after the strikeout.

However, other than a few other times (putting in our closer in a tie game, non-close situation, etc etc), I had a genuine WTF Ausmus moment after that inning.

If they were taking him off the mound after that inning, why not pinch hit for him?

Ajax just removed from center field mid-inning to a standing ovation. What a weird way to find out you're traded.

Well done, Mr. Dombrowski.

My only reservation is losing Smyly, who would've been a valuable long reliever in the postseason ... looks like that job falls to Porcello now.

And Price, obviously, is a great insurance policy if/when Scherzer goes to the Yankees during the offseason.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

So who plays center field now? Rajai? Dirks? Kelly? Torii obviously can't play there anymore.

I would think it's Davis.

Scuttlebutt is that they might bring up Ezequiel Carrera from the mud Hens, too. I loooooove this trade

Dombrowski just all but confirmed that they will move forward with Carrera (and, secondarily, Davis) as their CF. A huge gamble, but Dombrowski is all about the gambling, and he's pretty good at it.

Carrera's numbers in Toledo

Avg. - .307
HR - 6
RBI - 41
Slg. - .422
OPS. - 806

And he's a lefthanded bat

I checked out Carrera's baseball-reference page. He's played in 131 MLB games, close to a full season, and has slash lines of .251/.306/.339, which is pretty underwhelming. There is some speed there -- 18 stolen bases -- but his defensive stats seem below average. I guess we'll see.

Well, if he replicates those slash lines, I'll take that. Not quite as good as Ajax overall offensively. Defensively maybe a wash. That's not so much of a drop off that you don't do this deal IMHO

The Tigers are-- I hope-- marching toward the post-season, but are doing so with greenhorns at CF and SS.

I confess: that worries me. It may not be a disaster, but it worries me. I sure do wish that DET could have swung the deal, for Price, without giving up AJax.
Great hitter? No, but pretty good, and seeming to improve; also, given that improvement, a good lead-off hitter... those don't drop, like berries, from trees.
In CF, he's no Paul Blair, but-- despite a few clumsy moments-- goddam, I think he's quite good.

But, he's gone, and they will have to rely on Suarez & Romine at SS.

I'm not all panicky & over-wrought, about these issues, but worried? Yeah.

What a loss for the world that Joba played for the Yankees and had to stifle that glorious facial hair.
