I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.

Any way they can schedule the Twins every day?

And I'll bet a dozen tacos Victor is on the DL for longer than 15 days.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

Cross-post to the chest-thumpers thread, but it's pretty cool sometimes to know you're getting paid to watch Miguel Cabrera swing a bat.

The media apparently now gets the giveaways, making me the proud owner of a Victor bobblehead.
So there's that.

This guy retired 11 years ago. Why does he still haunt our newspaper?
Hmmmm....maybe I should be a large map of metro Detroit for on my wall, so I better know the relationship of my city and the suburbs. - Supersport

It's like he has no clue what's been going on since then, with the way the free agent market works nowadays.

I fully expect Cepesdes to be a Tiger again next year.

Nobody seems certain why Dombrowski was dismissed, but it appears he was ready to look elsewhere at the end of the season. Lord knows there are plenty of good jobs out there and he's young enough to make a project of any of them. More power to him.

Avila looked awfully uncomfortable today and it sure sounded like he was told exactly what to say when asked about Ilitch's relationship with Dombrowski and the recent trades. The Ilitches must be out of their minds if they really think they can contend for a wild card spot this season, but what else can they say? We quit and there's no hope? And, by the way, no need to show up at the park for the remaining 29 home dates?

The Tigers were a bad, bad club when Dombrowski was hired and we've spent the last nine years legitimately wondering whether the Tigers were contenders each spring. That's a lot, considering the Tigers were pretty much white noise between the end of the NHL playoffs and the start of the new Red Wings season from the mid-90s to mid-2000s.

I don't think Merchantgander is this dumb:
Ron Gardenhire is available. That's who I would target.

Cross-posted to FB:

To put some perspective on the whole "Fire Ausmus" movement. Joe Maddon, probably one the top managers in the MLB in the last decade, managed 4 teams in the minors, and never had a winning record. His first two years managing in the majors, the Devil Rays lost a combined 197 games in 2006 and 2007. They ended up going to the World Series in 2008 with essentially the same roster.

I am not making excuses. I am definitely not comparing Ausmus to Maddon. I am just pointing out that a large part of the Detroit Tigers fan base has gotten so used to winning, that they have lost perspective, and may not be all that knowledgable as they think about baseball.

Al Avila learned it a long time ago. He learned it from Jim Leyland.

“He said, ‘Whenever you make a decision to change a manager, do it right then and there and don’t wait,’” Avila said. “So whenever you make a decision, period, take action.”

And the Detroit Tigers’ first-year general manager took action this afternoon at Comerica Park, putting his first footprint on the organization by announcing that manager Brad Ausmus will return next season.

“After almost two months of watching this team play, evaluating our staff, manager and a lot of discussion with my staff, I’ve concluded that Brad Ausmus should be our manager going into 2016,” Avila said.

The conclusion came after watching Ausmus first-hand over the past two years and seeing the way he handled the past two months of the subpar season, which has seen the Tigers sink to the bottom of the American League Central.

The over/under on interim manager Omar Vizquel is late May.

Such a weird dynamic.

Dad confirms Alex Avila likely won't return to Tigers

“I don’t really see it as a priority,” Al Avila said. “Right now, (James) McCann is our starting catcher and (Bryan) Holaday is coming back, but is out of options. Basically, Holaday has to be our backup catcher or he’s out of options.”
I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't 'it,' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary.
