Now my regret is that since the record stores have all closed I have nowhere to go to rifle through bins looking for the album and no old rock dogs with whom to compare notes.

Trapeze is a Glenn Hughes band, one of the replacement Deep Purple members.

Try SOLO records on Woodward N of Webster in RO. Overstock.com has 3 different albums in stock.

Dude, you're hired.

Record "swap meets/shows" are a good place, too. I would imagine they have them around your locale, as they have them in Chicago all the time.

There was a little place up this way, now gone, that was great. I believe that the building had been a carry-out pizza place converted into a record store or, more accurately, a CD store. New CDs mixed in with the used, and just the kind of place to go and piss away 30 minutes or an hour on a slow Saturday afternoon. An awesome place just to go and browse and to talk rock. So many "found" tunes and artists discovered there, either in the bins, on the sound-system, or recommended by the quirky guys who manned the counter. John Cale, Robert Randolph and others were found in places like that. As the business was collapsing the owner once remarked to me that he could compete on price, but he couldn't beat "free" and so tunes ripped from the internet killed another one.

For melListening to little clips on interwebs doesn't have the same attraction as a means of encountering the new & interesting.

Probably one of the best record stores in the state back in the 80s will reopen in November.

Is there still a record store in Kerchival on the Hill? Friend of mine used to work there/manage it a number of years ago.

Not as far as I know. I don't get much past the library now that Something Special and Lucy's closed ages ago.

Sunday at Detroit Jazz Festival 2013: Karriem Riggins, Johnny O'Neal, Bill Frisell and more

I like Bill Frisell, although I've had people question why I'm "listening to this country shit"

Oh now.
I realize that I am responding to a post that is five months old, but I cannot restrain myself.
Bill Frisell is a terrific musician whose abilities, talents, & gifts lend themselves to a variety of musical stylings. There is nothing wrong with this or that "country shit," but there is something way wrong with categorizing Frisell's work by smearing it with such a dismissive term.
But, NBS, you come out as the winner, for having had your ears open & ready for enjoying such a sublimely sweet musical voice.
"Do What Thou Wilt" shall be the Whole of the Solid Block of Text.
As a ravine dweller I can confirm this.

I love exploring YouTube and stumbling across great live performances like this one.
One would never know they even exist if it wasn't for the internet.
IMHO this was when Bonnie was in her prime.

So as long as I'm rediscovering The Dead Milkmen.......this has to be one of the funniest songs ever made, and remarkably prescient today......

I feel so late to the party on this but the entire What's Goin' On album by Marvin Gaye is amazing.

I already knew a few songs but in the context of that total album, what a masterpiece.

I've added new-agey bullshit to my repertoire. Lately this one has me stoked.

Probably TLDR but check it out...

Everybody is posting the 2 Cellos guys doing AC-DC or GnR songs. I was checking out some of their other stuff and stumbled on them doing Misirlou.

Listening to it I thought the song sounded like it would sound good played with traditional Middle East instruments. Did some more digging and found out is was an old Greek folk song and one of Dick Dale's influences was his Uncle who was Oud player in a Bouzouki band.

Heard this for the first time just yesterday and it's caught my ear: Peter Frampton - I can't stand it no more

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXBo-ynknsM

And then this, too: 80s pop/rock from Argentina

Just goes to show that even in the old there's something new

Got set up with a woman (early returns: She's not a redhead!) who's pretty gaga about the Airborne Toxic Event. She invited me to see them next weekend in Lansing with her.

Gave them a bit of a listen this morning. They sound like a less Canadian Arcade Fire.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

Not really found, but gifted.
Got this box set for x-mas from a friend.
I've been a UFO fan since forever, especially the Schenker years, so I have all the albums, but it's neat to hear them live or done in sessions.
