betterhalf and I were just talking about that. We're not sure who that character is, but he's not funny.

He's the title character from "Anchorman" and "Anchorman 2"

Suuure you have a medical condition that warrants it's use.

^ Yeah, that guy creeps me out.

Maybe not played out so much as we might just need to back off on this hand wringing over Cushberry thing a little and let him realize his potential. I have a feeling he's just getting started. Let's not shoot our wads in the first weeks.

Artisan cocktails or whatever the fuck they call making you wait 10 minutes for a drink is. And the people that pour them.

4.0 and I took her folks to Two James around 9 p.m. Saturday night. Bar was full but the place hardly was hopping. A kid and two young women were behind the bar.
The bearded gnome comes over to us and informs it will be at least 20 minutes before we could get a drink because of the special care that goes into making them. 4.0's dad, who still seems fond of raising hell at 62, asks if he's going to freeze the ice cubes to make him a bourbon on the rocks. I had an old fashioned and the girls split a Moscow mule. The drinks were in front of us in less than five minutes.

I've heard similar stories from people who've walked into a relatively empty Sugar House. You'd think they're distilling the gin up their arrogant assholes.

I hate bartenders who think they're something more than the drummers of the service industry: They think they're one of a kind when there's a thousand more that can do the same job without the pretentiousness. Fuck 'em.
My hand to God, she's gonna be at Carnegie Hall. But you - I'll let you have her now at the old price, OK? Which is, which is anything you wanna give me. Anything at all.

Everything about that, from concept to execution, is nauseating.
But then, I too am one of those who thinks of "mixed drink" as "ice cubes may be mixed in with the booze."
Very effective use of "bearded gnome." I see several of those every time I (gritting my teeth) go to Whole Foods.

As a ravine dweller I can confirm this.

I had to search up Two James. It looks like some kind of hipster put-on.

Played out: Detroit as a marketing gimmick. This BBC article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25509923 , courtesy of the adult art project, is heavy on the Shinola watch company. I did some reading up on that one day and now I'm inundated with their targeted ads. The watches, of course, are made here in the Argonaut Building. My take is that the concept and design are not honest, by which I mean they made up a phony history and a faux-retro look (see PT Cruiser, brought to us by Chrysler who coincidentally pioneered the made in Detroit gimmick) and, seriously, if you're stuffing quartz movements into Chinese cases you're not a skilled watchmaker, you're an assembler, and a white lab coat doesn't elevate you to something else. A watch worth spending more than $50 on will have a mechanical movement of gears and springs and will tick. I wish them all the success, but Shinola is just dressing. I'll reserve comment on their bicycles and leather goods.

Please don't, comment away on the not made in Detroit bicycles. As someone that has more than a decade in the bicycle biz it is shameful that they call their products Made in Detroit. Did one of the large Chinese manufactures incorporate a new city named Detroit in China or wherever? Japan had the city of Usa that they slapped the made in USA labels on all the items produced there.

Made in Detroit, assembled in Detroit from random parts, it's all good but my question is this: the Shinola bikes aren't cheap and I understand that there are differences in weight, quality of build and parts, or, I dunno, snob appeal that are important to enthusiasts but is this something that's measurably better than the consumer grade Trek that one can buy for a quarter of the price?

The Shinola Runwell, retails for about $550-700

The Timex Weekender, retails for $40-55

Spend an extra $25-40 for a nice leather band and I dare you to tell the difference from more than two feet away.
