$.04 in aluminum cans right there. This embarrassment of riches is making the scrappers sloppy.

How long before the posts are cut down at ground level and scrapped? Note to self- $8 in aluminum benches still available.

Thieves broke into Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Monday night or very early Tuesday, taking, among other metal items, a 19th-century brass chandelier and the body of Christ from a crucifix.

Father Russell Kohler of the Corktown institution said police evidence technicians determined the thieves wore rubber gloves. Among the other missing pieces were two silver chalices, one of them gold-plated and decorated with a shamrock; the stands for two Easter candles; a ciborium, which holds the consecrated hosts during Mass; a tabernacle, which holds the consecrated hosts Kohler uses for unscheduled Mass or sick calls; an aspergium, or holy water sprinkler, and the container for the water; and two sets of stands and processional crosses.

The chalices were taken from a locked safe in the sacristy, which had a padlocked door. They were gifts from Kohler's family and a friend from his seminary when he was ordained in 1973.

Most Holy Trinity dates back to 1834 when it was the only English-speaking parish in Detroit; the present structure at Sixth and Porter was built in 1855. Kohler's been at the church since 1991.

"Our plea now is that we'd like the objects back," Kohler said, and "we would like the thieves to know who they're dealing with."

Police have apprehended a not-so-light-fingered thief for stealing a light pole in Detroit.

According to WDIV-TV (Channel 4), the 58-year-old man was nabbed by police after the pole was spotted partially covered with a tarp in the back of the man's pickup truck.

Light poles for vehicular traffic can be up to 20 feet long.

The man -- who had a suspended driver's license -- was pulled over near Oakland and Ferris streets on Sunday. Police believe the man was planning on selling the pole for scrap metal. At this point, it's unknown where the pole was stolen from.
