Had the stadium been torn down 14 months ago, as planned, the demolition company would have paid the city for the privilege of reusing the bricks, the concrete and steel that once held the stadium together.
I call BS. The agreement with OTSC wouldn't allow them to move forward until this spring. They could not have torn it down 14 months ago. Steel prices typically peak lat fall early winter and then collapse in spring / summer.
They easily could have waited until October to begin demo and gotten better pricing. This is all about getting it down. They are paying $400,000 to get bad publicity. Jackson has zero sense about community perception and when folks try to correct him he just digs his heels in harder.
Case in point, when KK told the press at a Thursday conference to come back the following Monday for news on Tiger Stadium, two of the four TV news outlets had helicopters circling the stadium within an hour. All four did live broadcasts that afternoon. Jackson's response was "WTF is their deal? Who casres about the POS. This just makes me think we have to move quickly to tear it down." The man is completely tone deaf and has no clue how to work public relations.
