I used to take my nephew to play at Joann park. He was 2 and I was 6. It was about a block from my sister's house and she would cross us at the corner and I'd take him to swing and play in the sand. Those were the days.

Yes, they were. In winter, the Parks and Rec Department would flood the park. I used to skate there for hours. I was a Peggy Fleming wanna-be.

Not too far from the Catholic store. That park had the best playground equipment (with exception of the monkey bars). It even had one of those cool covered slides. There was a mural on the side of the building adjoining the lot. Funny, I can't remember the name.

Wasn't the Catholic store McCauley's or something. I remember going there for a 1st Communion rosary and a Confirmation Missal covered in pure white vinyl. So saintly.

Up in the right hand corner of the google maps page is a button that says 'Link'. Click that.

Yes, depressing. When I saw that picture, my first (unbidden) thought was to think, "FUCK! Wasn't anything taken care of in this city?!?" I'm so tired of seeing once-loved houses just used up and left to rot.

That area has experienced some nasty crime of late. Is this due to other areas of Detroit being picked clean and this is the last area to be destroyed?
