Thought you could get away with not posting this thread again, huh?

Well you thought wrong, there's a ton out there so let's get going:

On Wednesday, Ted Lamborgine, 65, pleaded guilty in a Romulus courtroom to 15 sex-related charges from incidents during the 1970s.

Prosecutors said the charges are from incidents that involve young boys in Detroit's Cass Corridor.

Assistant Wayne County prosecutor Robert Moran said Lamborgine declined to make a deal for guilty pleas in two of the cases and a sentence reduction in exchange for a polygraph test regarding the Oakland County child killings, which took place during the 1970s.

Lamborgine's attorney, Rita Young, said her client has no knowledge of the killings and did not want to go through with the interrogation process.

Lamborgine faces life in prison and will be sentenced on April 20.

Moran said if Lamborgine had accepted the deail he might have received a 15-year sentence.

Crazy White People. God knows there's plenty of them, which is why I started the thread at the prior HFD incarnation. But now that has Assalamama has laid his name to the thread, I henceforth divest further involvement.

In the name of freshness, I offer up a new thread: Degenerate Urban Predators. Here's the first posting:

Report links 21 to crime wave

Detroit Police study blames criminals for at least 149 offenses; violence dips after arrests.

David Josar and Amy Lee / The Detroit News

DETROIT -- A Detroit Police Department report says 21 criminals -- some operating alone, others in gangs of two to five -- were responsible for at least 149 crimes from late 2005 through 2006.

The report, obtained Tuesday by The Detroit News, was created at the request of Chief Ella Bully-Cummings to illustrate her contention that a small number of criminals account for the majority of Detroit crime.

Police say the arrest of the 21 -- some are still awaiting trial but all are incarcerated -- are one factor in a decline in Detroit's violent crime this year.

"This is part of the reason violent crime is going down," said police spokesman James Tate. "But there is not a magic pill. there's a layered approach."

The report cited a common tenet of criminologists that felons commit about three times more criminal acts than the charges they face reflect. Using that calculation, Detroit police said the 20 men and one woman profiled in their report probably are linked to more than 450 crimes.

Central Michigan University professor and urban crime expert Eric Johnson confirmed that conclusion.

"Drug addicts alone can go out and commit hundreds of crimes in a few days, so it can be absolutely true," he said.

"If the inner city rots out, the whole community around it rots out, too, so it's important for the whole Detroit Metro area that somehow Detroit is revived, if it can be."

Still, if the 21 were responsible for more than 450 crimes, that tally is just a fraction of the robberies, carjackings and homicides committed annually in Detroit. In 2002, according to Uniform Crime Reports, the city reported 85,035 crimes.

In the 13-month period, police say, the 21 alleged marauders robbed, shot, raped and otherwise victimized people across the city, ranging from the Central Business District to southwest Detroit. "These are very bad people that are off the street," Tate said.

One of them, Darryl Thomas, 43, is serving up to 15 years in connection with 11 counts of armed robbery involving purse snatching. He's in isolation, after his cellmate was found murdered.

All but one of the 21 accused used a gun to intimidate victims. Fourteen had prior records.

Among the cases:

Five teenagers, armed with an Uzi automatic weapon, shot two people and raped three women as they committed 28 separate crimes. According to police records, Arthur Hailey, now 20; Jerome Hailey, 18; Davaughn Brown, 17; Catrell Torres, 20; and Jeffery Godlett, 16, terrorized people throughout the city until they were arrested at Eastland Mall July 7. Of the five, only Jerome Hailey had a previous record. Torres pled guilty and is serving 4-15 years in prison. Jerome Hailey and Arthur Hailey are serving 10-25 years; and Brown is serving 10-20 years. The outcome of the charges against Godlett was not available Tuesday.

Between August 2005 and October 2006, Lamont Sumerlin, 23, and Kenneth Johnson, 21, used a gun to rob dollar stores across the city. They were charged in connection with 26 armed robberies and two home invasions. They are to be sentenced this month.

17-year-old D'Juan Washington is serving a seven- to 20-year prison term for 18 armed carjackings in the city from September 2005 to March 2006, when he was captured by a special Detroit police unit. He pleaded guilty.

Jonah Wooten, 25, was charged with the armed robberies of seven parking lot attendants last November, in the Central Business District. Arrested in Canton Township, he is awaiting trial.

In recent months, Detroit has rolled out a number of initiatives to combat the spike in crime that in 2006 plagued not only Detroit but most of the nation.

Police Department brass now must participate in street patrols, and other officers are being redeployed so they are a more visible presence. The department is using rapid-response teams to flood areas with extra cops. In addition, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick floated a plan to assign gang squads to patrol public schools.

Kilpatrick also has stepped up pressure on city residents to be more responsible for their community.

"Nobody's coming to save us," he said in his State of the City address this month. "We have to stand up for ourselves and stand up now."

CMU's Johnson said comments like Kilpatrick's are important in attacking crime.

"It was courageous of him to say that. Courageous and probably not untrue," Johnson said.

For years, Bully-Cummings has preached that Detroiters can no longer turn a blind eye when family members come home with fur coats, expensive TVs and jewelry that they cannot afford.

Combating crime involves police, county prosecutors, the court system and the state Department of Corrections, Tate said, but regular residents are part of the equation too.

"People have to start doing something," he said. "In some families, they know what's going on, but nobody wants to be a snitch -- but you have to step up."

Army vet sues Detroit police

Paul Egan / The Detroit News

A U.S. Army veteran filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday alleging a Detroit police officer grabbed his genitals and performed an illegal cavity search before releasing him without charges.

The American Civil Liberties Union said at a news conference the 2006 incident involving Elvis Ware was part of a pattern of behavior by two police officers who allegedly have committed similar assaults on as many as 10 men in southwest Detroit.

Ware, 35, is suing the city and Officers Michael Parish and Michael Osman, alleging they assaulted him, conducted an unlawful search and sexually harassed him in June 2006.

"This is an outrageous practice -- something that we need to put an end to," said Michael J. Steinberg, legal director of the ACLU of Michigan.

But Osman, who since has been promoted to sergeant, denied the allegations in a phone interview. "I can absolutely speak for my partner and say that he has never conducted a cavity search out on the street and neither have I," Osman said.

"It's absolutely disgusting, these allegations."

According to the complaint, Ware was at a gas station at Schaefer Highway and Fort Street when a man he knew stopped at his driver's side window and asked for a cigarette, which Ware gave him.

Parish and Osman then approached, the lawsuit alleges. Parish pulled Ware from his car, asked "Where are the drugs,?" handcuffed him, reached in Ware's underwear and grabbed him by the genitals and attempted to insert his bare finger in Ware's anus, the complaint alleges.

Police found no drugs and released Ware without charges, the complaint alleges.

Police can only conduct cavity searches with a judge's order and a medical official present, Steinberg said.

That's the practice police follow, Osman said. He confirmed a Wayne County judge threw out evidence in another Parish-Osman arrest based on what she said was an illegal cavity search in March. But Osman denied that there was an illegal search but said that case is being appealed.

Ware said he served nearly five years with the army, including a brief stint in Iraq as part of Operation Desert Storm. Ware has no drug or felony convictions, Steinberg said.

Though Ware is the only plaintiff, Steinberg said he is aware of about 10 similar complaints involving the same officers.

Complaints were aired publicly at a Detroit City Council meeting last June, shortly before the Ware incident, he said.

Pontiac police say a man upset about the state of the auto industry threatened the lives of the top men at Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.
Patrick Hufford, 30, of Yale, Michigan could get a year in jail for the threats, which investigators say were phoned in to the Oakland Press newspaper on March 26.

Police say Hufford left messages of the voicemail of two Oakland Press employees, threatening "great bodily harm" to the CEOs "if the [auto industry] situation did not get better by April 1st. Security officals for the automakers were notified of the threats.

Investigators say they nabbed Hufford thanks to caller ID on the Oakland Press phones.

YPSILANTI -- Surveillance tapes at Eastern Michigan University show Orange Taylor III, dressed in black, slipping into a side doorway at Hill Hall around 4:20 a.m. Dec. 13, 2006, and heading up the steps, out of the cameras' sight.

Five hours earlier, junior Laura Dickinson can be seen on tape entering the doorway and up the steps toward her fourth-floor room, still carrying two small bags from the EMU novice rowing team's Secret Santa party earlier that night.

Once in her room, she called her boyfriend and checked her e-mail before going to bed shortly after midnight, police and prosecutors testified Friday, ending two days of testimony in Taylor's preliminary examination.

They claim Taylor and Dickinson's paths crossed that early morning in December and allege he broke into her room while she slept, pinned her down, raped her and smothered her with her pillow. Her body was found two days later by an EMU custodian investigating a foul smell coming from her room.

"He (Taylor) entered her room without permission. He raped and murdered her," said Blaine Longworth, Washtenaw County assistant prosecuting attorney.

Judge Kirk W. Tabbey ruled there was sufficient evidence in the case, including Taylor's semen and other DNA evidence on Dickinson's body and elsewhere in the room, to try Taylor on five felonies, including open murder, two counts of criminal sexual conduct, larceny and home invasion.

A pretrial hearing has been set for May 9 before Judge Archie Brown at 22nd Circuit Court in Ann Arbor.

If convicted, Taylor, 20, of Southfield faces up to life in prison.

Tabbey's ruling ended two days of testimony from police, the Washtenaw County medical examiner, crime scene investigators, EMU employees and Dickinson's friends, who painted the 22-year-old from Hastings as a good student and dedicated member of the school's rowing team.

Taylor, in contrast, was portrayed as a troublesome hoodlum who had had run-ins with the police while attending EMU and had been kicked out of his dorm room for getting into too much trouble a month before Dickinson's death.

Federal investigators are exploring whether EMU broke U.S. law by failing to alert its students when a crime presents a threat to them and the community

Mom charged with offering 7-year-old daughter for sex
Child could be photographed or molested for cash, mother said
April 1, 2007

A 33-year old Taylor mother, accused of arranging for her 7-year-old daughter to be sexually molested at a Romulus motel, was arraigned today on multiple charges of sexual abuse.

The woman was arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus, where bond was set at $1 million. Investigators are withholding her name to protect her children.

Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans said the case was the most disgusting and exploitative he’s seen in his 30-plus years of law enforcement.

“She made it clear that she would see that the child would comply,’’ Evans said.

According to authorities, the woman allegedly provided an undercover deputy from the Internet Crime Unit with a menu that ranged from taking sexually suggestive photos of the child to sexual penetration, depending on how much money was offered.

The woman’s five children, ages 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12, have been turned over to Child Protective Services.

Evans said the department is investigating whether any of the woman’s children have been molested.

The suspect allegedly offered the undercover officer the opportunity to take photos of the girl. The woman was arrested Friday after she met with the undercover officer and discussed being paid more money in exchange for sex with the child.

It is the latest in a rash of similar incidents in metro Detroit.

In November, a Clinton Township man who was chief executive officer of a Warren credit union was charged after he tried to set up a sexual encounter over the Internet with a woman's 5-year-old daughter. The woman was really an undercover officer. The suspect, David Lance Rauch, has since pleaded guilty to three charges involving the use of a computer to commit a crime and child sexually abusive activity.

In February, a 37-year-old paramedic from Chino Hills, Calif., was arrested at Detroit Metro Airport after he had exchanged e-mails with an undercover detective from the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The suspect had sought sex with two underage girls.

And in March, a Los Angeles man, 55, was arrested after he flew to Michigan allegedly to meet someone he thought was a mother offering her 5-year old daughter for sex.

Police: Man confesses to killing store clerk

MOUNT CLEMENS -- A Macomb County man accused of killing a 7-Eleven clerk after an argument over the price of a taco admitted that he shot the man but said he "wasn't himself" when he did it, according to a police statement.

"I shot him," Kenyatta Davis, 35, of Shelby Township, told Sterling Heights police in a September interview at the police station. "It was like somebody gave me something. I wasn't myself. People around me know I have a temper but not like that."

Authorities say Davis on Aug. 24 argued with Wajed Ali Baig, 47, a clerk at the convenience store in Sterling Heights, over the price of $1.16 taco. Davis got a gun from his vehicle and shot the father of three four times, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, which arrested Davis eight days later at a home in Racine, Wis.

The Macomb Daily reports Davis' 90-minute statement to police was approved Monday by Macomb Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski to be included in his first-degree murder trial, scheduled to start June 5. If convicted as charged, Davis will spend life in prison without the chance for parole.
