Detroit Fire Watch

Looks like low-rise projects at Temple and Lodge service drive are burning. That'll save on demo costs later.
My Goodness! What's going on? What's happening?

Who actually owns the projects? Is it the city? HUD? Private parties?

I could see it pretty well from Van Dyke and Mack, although I wasn't sure if it was a fire or the big rainstorm that's been forecast.

Clearly if I had the needs and funding I would surely invest here and become the change Detroit needs.

Probably not "projects" on fire. Detroit Big Three are very close to releasing 1Q07 sales figures. Smoke today should be read the same way as smoke from the Japanese embassy on December 6, 1941.

Could this be the culprit?
1 injured in Detroit house explosion

Tom Greenwood / The Detroit News

Detroit fire fighters are on the scene of a blaze at home that apparently exploded at the intersection of Horton and Brush, on Detroit's east side.

According to preliminary reports, at least one person was injured in the incident, which happened shortly after 9 a.m.

The explosion sent plumes of smoke billowing across the area.

Three more about an hour ago, starting west near Motor City Casino and heading east into Brush Park.

I thought Hip City Living wasn't going to break ground until next week?
